482 Skills in Demand Visa

The Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) replaced the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa on 7 December 2024. It allows approved Australian employers to sponsor skilled overseas workers to fill positions they cannot fill locally. The visa is valid for up to 4 years and provides a direct pathway to permanent residence through the 186 Employer Nomination Scheme. There are three streams:

494 Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa

The Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) is a 5-year provisional visa for skilled workers sponsored by an approved employer in a designated regional area of Australia. It provides a pathway to permanent residence through the subclass 191 visa. Key requirements:

You must live and work only in a designated regional area while holding this visa. After 3 years of living and working in the region with taxable income above AUD 70,000 per year, you may apply for the subclass 191 permanent visa.

186 Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Visa

The Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186) is a permanent residence visa for skilled workers nominated by an approved Australian employer. The minimum salary is AUD 76,515 per year (nominations lodged before 30 June 2026). There are two streams:

191 Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Visa

407 Training Visa

The Training visa (subclass 407) is a temporary visa that allows you to travel to Australia to undertake occupational training activities to improve your skills. The visa is valid for up to 2 years. There are two streams:
